Design and application checks

A gate valve raises or lowers a gate across the flow passage and is normally selected for fully open or fully closed isolation. A conventional isolation gate valve should not be assumed suitable for continuous throttling.

Rising and non-rising stems have different clearance and position-indication requirements. Wedge and parallel-slide designs are not interchangeable descriptions. Confirm the gate, seat and bonnet arrangement, operating torque and available maintenance space.

What should I provide for a quotation?

Provide the fluid and composition, solids content, normal and design pressure and temperature, DN or NPS, connection standard, installation orientation, operating duty and required inspection documents. State any corrosion, vacuum, fire-safety or emissions requirements separately.

How do I confirm the pressure and temperature rating?

Use the approved data sheet, nameplate and pressure–temperature limits for the complete valve, including its seat, lining and seals. PN, ASME Class and JIS K are different designation systems, not a fixed numerical conversion. A shared nominal size does not establish flange interchangeability.

What must be checked before installation?

Compare the face-to-face dimension, flange drilling and facing, pipe bore, flow direction and maintenance clearance with the approved drawing. Clean and isolate the pipeline, release pressure and follow the product installation instructions. Do not use flange bolts to pull misaligned pipework into position.
